Reading a Chinese Agency Proposal Before You Sign

Read a Chinese channel proposal through one customer journey. Clarify Mini Program deliverables, operating responsibilities, acceptance and recurring charges.

“Mini Program, Chinese content and monthly support” could describe several different purchases. One proposal might deliver a catalogue and leave the retailer to answer every message. Another might include Chinese enquiry handling but require the retailer to confirm stock manually. Both descriptions can sound complete until someone asks what happens after a shopper taps the purchase button.

For an overseas business considering CN1X, a useful proposal should connect the promised work to a Chinese customer journey the business can actually operate. Read it with one offer in mind. Follow that offer through content, selection, enquiry or checkout, confirmation and the work your team receives.

The short version: turn each service heading into a deliverable, a dependency and a way to check completion. Separate the initial build from ongoing Chinese channel work, identify decisions the business retains and name charges that need separate approval. Test the proposed scope against an ordinary purchase and an exception. This is an operational reading exercise, not legal advice or a sample contract.

Use one hypothetical scope to expose the gaps

Imagine an overseas retailer planning to sell a small ceramic-cup range through a Chinese Mini Program. Its working proposal lists a localized catalogue, a storefront, payment setup, launch content, Chinese customer support and monthly reporting. This is a hypothetical example, not a client quotation or a statement of what every CN1X engagement includes.

Write the intended journey beside that list: a shopper reads Chinese product content, selects a pack, reviews the order, pays through the agreed route and receives confirmation. The retailer then obtains an order it can fulfill. A customer asking about an unavailable colour needs a supported response as well.

Now annotate the service headings. The purpose is to identify what the parties need to agree, rather than assume the broadest possible meaning of every term. A missing detail may be straightforward to resolve before approval and difficult to reconstruct once work has started.

Our partner-selection guide covers broader questions about choosing an agency. This exercise concerns the written scope for a particular Chinese channel, after the proposed services are on the table.

Read “localized catalogue” as a defined content job

Ask which products, option types and customer-facing messages are included. A count of product pages does not establish whether the Chinese pack selector, cart labels, availability messages and order confirmation will also be written.

For the hypothetical cup range, the retailer supplies approved product specifications, pack contents, photographs and prices. The content work translates and adapts that material into Chinese names and explanations that remain consistent through selection and purchase. Someone must check the source facts before approving the Chinese version.

Specify the material the business receives for review and how corrections are handled. Distinguish a correction to an inaccurate translation from a later decision to change the product range. Agree the review arrangement without assuming unlimited rewriting or treating every factual correction as a new commission.

Read image work just as carefully. Existing retailer photography, a commissioned shoot and licensed stock are different inputs. If photography is absent from the scope, identify how suitable approved images will be supplied before the page depends on them.

Follow “storefront build” beyond the first screen

Ask the team to show which customer actions the proposed Mini Program supports. For this retailer, pack selection, quantity, cart editing and order confirmation matter as much as the product page. Name the supported purchase route and what happens when a chosen pack is unavailable.

The proposal should identify where the order goes. An export checked by staff and an automatic warehouse connection involve different responsibilities. If a system connection is included, name the actual system and the access or provider cooperation needed to complete it.

Treat an unresolved dependency as unresolved. A demonstration using another merchant's setup does not establish that this retailer has the same account access, payment arrangement or integration. Identify who checks the actual route and what decision follows if it cannot be used.

The Mini Program cost guide discusses scope drivers. When reading a proposal, use those drivers to identify the purchase being offered; do not assume a higher page count means a more complete operating system.

Separate payment setup from the retailer's decisions

Clarify which payment-related work is included: preparation of the customer flow, coordination of onboarding, connection to the agreed provider and testing may be distinct tasks. Identify the business documents and approvals the retailer must supply.

Ask where the retailer will see a transaction and how staff connect it to the order they must fulfill. A successful payment screen alone does not demonstrate that the warehouse has the right pack and quantity.

Keep commercial authority explicit. The retailer approves prices, stock commitments, refunds and substitutions under its actual terms. The Chinese interface and response team need to communicate those decisions consistently; a heading such as “payment support” does not transfer every commercial decision to the agency.

Avoid filling a proposal gap with an assumed platform fee, settlement period or approval date. Request the actual provider arrangement and identify which details remain subject to confirmation.

Give monthly support an observable operating scope

For the hypothetical retailer, “Chinese customer support” needs a defined inbox or channel, coverage arrangement and escalation contact. State which questions the Chinese team can answer from approved information and which require a stock or commercial decision from the retailer.

An enquiry about a blue two-cup pack should reach someone able to establish whether that pack exists and is available. If a retailer decision is needed, agree who obtains it and returns the answer. A translated acknowledgement is only one part of handling that enquiry.

Read recurring content work separately. Identify the channels, formats and review process included in the proposed period. Account operation, new creative production, creator collaborations and paid media are not interchangeable merely because they all support the same launch.

For reporting, name the available records and the business review they support. Distinguish published content, enquiries, orders and payments. Where marketing contribution is inferred across channels, keep that inference separate from measured transactions. A monthly report should not imply an attribution connection the records cannot establish.

Make acceptance a demonstration of the promised route

Agree how the business will review completion before treating the build as ready. For the cup example, a useful demonstration follows an approved product from Chinese selection through a controlled purchase test to the retailer's fulfillment record.

Include a changed quantity, an unavailable combination and a question requiring the retailer's decision. Compare what the customer believes they selected with what the retailer receives. This checks the proposed deliverable more directly than approving attractive screenshots alone.

Use an agreed test environment or controlled test method. Do not create unexpected live customer messages, charges or warehouse shipments as a side effect of review.

Record outstanding issues with an owner and a proposed resolution. Distinguish correcting promised behaviour from adding a new feature after the scope was agreed. A clear review process helps both parties resolve that difference using the actual deliverables and evidence.

Identify recurring charges and changes before approval

Read the initial project and ongoing work as separate commitments. Identify what starts at launch, what requires a further decision and which third-party costs sit outside the service price. Ask how hosting, provider charges, media spending and separately commissioned assets are represented where relevant.

Agree who can authorize extra work or spending. Adding a new product format, connecting another system or commissioning a creator should have an identifiable approval route. A remaining advertising balance does not by itself authorize another campaign.

Check what the business receives if it pauses ongoing services. Identify access, approved content, order records and any handover work in the actual arrangement. Do not assume that stopping monthly content production automatically removes the storefront, or that keeping the storefront includes continued Chinese customer service.

Keep the clarified scope together with the version being approved. Useful annotations answer a practical question: what will be delivered, what must we supply, how will we check it, and what continues afterwards?

Where CN1X fits

CN1X's services cover Mini Program builds, Chinese localization and content, channel marketing, payments and fulfillment connections, CRM and reporting. An engagement should identify the particular combination being commissioned and the responsibilities needed to operate it.

Share one offer and the customer journey you want supported. We can scope the Chinese deliverables, retailer inputs and acceptance steps around that journey, so the proposal describes work both teams can recognize and review.
